Book Party - Jeff Cutler and Diane Darling

I have been to Boston Media Makers and a bunch of other events around Boston for years. I've been immersed in social media for about a decade. And I've been a professional writer and author since the mid 1980s.

When Diane Darling asked me to help with her new book, I jumped at the chance. She is charming and upfront about her skillset and her mantras. She wants to see people succeed and has a vision in how that can happen. For even experienced networking and social media professionals, Darling's tips and insight can be valuable.

For instance, in her most recent book...

AGAIN, DISCLAIMER, I CONTRIBUTED A SECTION TO THIS BOOK

...Diane gets down and dirty in how professionals at all levels leverage their skills and outgoing nature to make connections and ultimately make themselves more successful financially and emotionally.

Give it a read...even if you buy it just to see my section...it's a nice primer for those who are a bit skeptical that traditional networking still can get the job done. I believe a mix of traditional and new media is the right route, but I'm a tech-head early adopter, what do I know?

ALSO, there's an event coming up on May 18 where you can meet Diane in person and get your book signed. I expect that I'll be there too and will sign anything you bring in - doesn't have to be a book.

Here's the info on that May 18 event.

Who is the real Novel Ideas' writer

I think I am. Here's the story...

Now it seems that there are two other Novel Ideas companies in the nation. I'm guessing the count is much higher, but when I opened my writing services firm on January 1, 1992 I didn't realize that the world would shrink so much as the Internet brought us together.

With my Novel Ideas writing site at Ideas2Words dot com - www.ideas2words.com - I attract a modest amount of business. But as you can guess, the reason my Novel Ideas site isn't at NovelIdeas.com is two-fold.

One - the name was taken. Pure and simple. Novel Ideas is a bookmark company in North Carolina. Good name. Fair product. I was too slow.

Two - NovelIdeas looks like Noveiideas or NoveLLdeas when written out. Having two of the same letter - unless you're google - in your domain name is bad news. So I haven't pursued it.

But now there's a writer marketing herself and her company - Novel Ideas - out in the western part of the United States.

What to do? Cease and desist? Nice letter asking her to give up the name? Combine forces and have two offices of Novel Ideas?

I don't know. Send me your suggestions.

Right now I'm on a writing sabbatical, but still have some billing through both Jeff Cutler and Novel Ideas. So the company isn't on hiatus and isn't going away.

It begs the question of intellectual property in this age of fast-moving people and concerns.

Keep reading...I'll let you know how it all turns out.

Ideas 2 Words

I've found myself in a difficult intellectual property situation with this blog. When you type in ideas2words.blogspot.com you show up here at a blog titled Bowl of Cheese.

Well, Bowl of Cheese is actually the name of a blog and podcast I run over in the non-blogspot world. I already own the BOC domain and therefore should be able to let this seemingly random blogspot name go away.

But it's not that simple. You see, ideas2words.com is the site of my company, Novel Ideas. I have owned ideas2words.com for a long time (because NovelIdeas.com wasn't available) and it says exactly what I provide to my clients.

For more than 16 years, I've been providing writing services and a unique way to turn their ideas into words. It's copywriting, branding, advertising and marketing.

SO, it would be foolish to dilute my brand by giving away this site...especially from a marketing and branding perspective.

But I also realize that I'm not doing much with this site and I should be posting more writing-related content here.

I'm in a quandary. If there were an easy way to port all these posts to another of my blogspot properties, I'd do so and probably just use this site to mirror jeffcutler.com or ideas2words.com.

But I can't find that in the controls.

Further, if there were an easy way to duplicate the Bowl of Cheese posts here, I might do that as well, but that means dual posting all the time and I post pretty much daily at BOC.

Gimme your comments and let me know if there's a way to resolve this without damaging my brand and without losing my content.

Thanks!

Jeff

Blogtoberfest

Just came from an event in Boston called Blogtoberfest. It's just a regular (well, they've only had two so far) gathering of bloggers in the Boston area.

People there had myriad reasons for throwing thoughts and words up on the Web and I definitely qualified.

Currently, I'm running about 10 blogs and am wandering down a path between manic attention to posting frequently and the complete blog-fade pattern that hits so many people who have real lives to attend to.

The blogspot blogs I have have suffered the most. I think it's because readers are more likely to visit my main domains - bowlofcheese, jeffcutler, and Novel Ideas. The only blog here that's really starting to get some juice and some traction is the worry site.

So, if you stumble upon my writing, just follow the links until you find some fun stuff to read or assignments you want to complete.

Thanks for reading.

Just look around

OK. People are wandering here and they're not finding exactly what I intended.

That is to say that I want people to find the FULL-ON Bowl of Cheese site. If that's you, here's what you're probably looking for...
